Preferences
The user preferences allow for adjustments to various options and settings that dictate the behavior and user interface of Finmail Webmail. These numerous settings are organized into the following sections:
注意: After making changes to preferences, it is important to save them by clicking the “Save” button located below the settings form.
User Interface
Language
Finmail Webmail is available in multiple languages. You can switch the language here. When accessing the application, the language is automatically selected based on your computer’s operating system language.
Time zone
Dates displayed throughout the application will be automatically translated into your local time zone. Set this to “Auto” to utilize your computer’s time zone settings, or select a specific time zone from the provided list.
Time format
Choose how time (hours and minutes) are displayed.
Date format
Select the format in which dates should be displayed.
Pretty dates
By selecting this option, dates that are close to the present will be displayed using relative terms such as “Today”, “Yesterday”, etc.
Refresh
Set the interval at which the system checks for updates, such as new arrived messages.
Handle popups as standard windows
When Finmail Webmail opens messages or the compose form in a new window, this option determines whether the window will be a detached window with a smaller size and without toolbar buttons, or a regular browser window/tab. If enabled, all windows opened by Finmail Webmail will adhere to the settings of your browser.
Register protocol handler
You can register Finmail Webmail to automatically open whenever you click on an email link anywhere on the web.
Mailbox View
Mark previewed messages read
Select the duration on how long new messages should be marked as “read” when opened in the preview pane.
Expand message threads
When listing messages in threads, this option determines how conversation groups are expanded in the list.
Rows per page
The messages list displays a specific number of messages at a time, also known as a “page”. Increasing this number may result in longer loading times when opening a mailbox folder.
Check all folders for new messages
By default, only the Inbox is periodically checked for new messages. If you have server-side filters that move incoming messages to other folders, it is recommended to check this option.
Displaying Messages
Open message in a new window
When this option is enabled, double-clicking a message in the email view will open it in a new window instead of the current browser window/tab.
Display HTML
Enabling this option allows for the display of formatted messages as intended by the sender. When disabled, formatted emails will be converted to plain text.
Display remote inline images
Formatted (HTML) messages may contain references to images that need to be loaded from a remote server. This can potentially compromise privacy and inform the sender that the message has been opened. Spammers often use this technique to verify the existence of an email address and may result in an increase in spam.
On request for return receipt
This option controls the behavior when opening a message for which the sender requested a read receipt.
Display attached images below the message
Enable this option if you want image attachments to be displayed below the message text.
Advanced options
Default Character Set
In rare cases where email systems do not specify the character set when sending messages, the receiver (Finmail Webmail) has to make assumptions on how to display special characters (e.g., éäç). This setting allows you to select the character set/language that is most commonly used by your email correspondents.
Composing Messages
Compose in a new window
Enabling this option opens the message compose form in a new window instead of the current browser window/tab.
Compose HTML messages
When composing a new message, enabling this option activates the rich text (HTML) editor. This setting is only the default for composing HTML messages and can be toggled at any time during composition.
Automatically save draft
As you write a new message, a copy will be automatically saved to the Drafts folder every few minutes. You can select the interval or disable automatic saving here.
Always request a return receipt
Activate the “Return receipt” sending option by default for new messages.
Always request a delivery status notification
Activate the “Delivery status notification” sending option by default for new messages.
Place replies in the folder of the message being replied to
Instead of saving replied messages to the “Sent” folder, this option allows you to choose the current folder as the location for saving reply messages.
When replying
This option determines whether and where to place the quoted original text when replying to a message.
Messages forwarding
This option sets the default mode for forwarding messages when clicking the “Forward” button without selecting a specific forward mode.
Default font of HTML message
When writing a formatted (HTML) message, this font face and size will be used for the default text formatting.
Default action of the “Reply all” button
For messages received from mailing lists, this setting determines how the “Reply all” button will behave.
Automatically add signature
Select the cases in which the signature text from your sender identity should be added to a new message.
When replying, remove original signature
Enabling this setting removes detected signatures from the original message when quoting it in the reply.
Advanced options
Attachment names
In some cases, recipients of your email messages may have difficulties properly seeing the names of attached files. Adjust this setting if you receive complaints about garbled attachment names.
Use MIME encoding for 8-bit characters
Enabling this option allows for the “safe” sending of message texts, but it may increase the amount of data being sent. Activate this option if people are unable to read messages you send out.
Contacts (Address Book)
Default address book
Select the default address book where new contacts are saved when adding them from the mail view.
List contacts as
Choose how names are displayed in the contact list.
Sorting column
Select the contact attribute used for sorting the contacts in the list.
Rows per page
The number of contacts displayed at a time, also known as a “page” in the contact list.
Skip alternative email addresses in autocompletion
With this option enabled, each contact will appear only once in the autocompletion list that appears when typing in the recipient field. The first email address of the selected contact will be inserted. If disabled, all email addresses associated with a matching contact will be displayed for selection.
Special Folders
Certain folders serve specific purposes and are used by system processes to store messages. This form allows you to choose which folders are used to store Drafts, Sent, Junk or deleted messages (Trash).
Show real names for special folders
By enabling this setting, the original names of the assigned special folders will be displayed in the folder list instead of localized names.
Divide archive by
This option allows for the organization of the archive folder in various ways. The selected message(s) can be filed into sub-folders of the archive based on the sent date, the sender’s email address, or the folder from which the message is moved.
When hitting the Archive button in the mail view, the selected messages will be moved to this folder.
When set to None, all messages will be stored in the Archive folder without any sub-folders being created.
Server Settings
This section provides more advanced settings that control how messages are handled by the email server.
Mark the message as read on delete
Enabling this option will flag unread messages as read when they are deleted.
Flag the message for deletion instead of delete
Email messages can be flagged as deleted before being permanently removed from a folder. This allows for potential “undeletion” at a later time. To permanently delete flagged messages, use the Compact command from the Mailbox folders operations menu.
Do not show deleted messages
With this option enabled, messages flagged as deleted will not be listed.
Directly delete messages in Junk
When deleting messages in the Junk folder, they are first moved to the Trash. Enabling this option bypasses that step.
Maintenance
Clear Trash on logout
Enabling this option will empty the Trash folder when the session is terminated.
Compact Inbox on logout
Enabling this option will remove all messages flagged for deletion from the Inbox when logging off.
